On my long journey throughout the Internet Jungle, I have tried to search for unique products/tools/services that will be very useful for any kind of website, whether it is an E-commerce site or a private affiliate blog. I must say that sometimes you can just get lost in all that information which is provided to you, luckily, Google does a pretty good job in crediting useful sites, like userfly for example.
So what is exactly userfly and what make it so unique that I will sit on my work desk after 10 our of work and write this review? – Well, this is a web usability testing tool or Interaction design testing tool that has a unique feature that separates it from other usability testing tools, and it is VIDEO! — Yep, video.
Userfly record visitors mouse movements, clicks, input fields and actually records a video of the visitors session, so you can track and see your website’s visitor behavior as they browse your website. You can actually spot bad UI implementations, by juts sitting back at your office and watch a video of your visitors website interactions. Therefore, you can improve on your current website design and improve your website user experience.
To get a better concept about this truly unique and valuable usability testing tool, you should check out the online demo yourself. On userfly.com home page, at the top part of the page, under the ‘Sign up for free’ yellow button, you will see a ‘Try the demo’ link. Just click on it and you will arrive at a demo page which record your visiting session at that specific page.
All you have to do is follow the 4 steps: Move your mouse, interact with form fields, type a password (just put some letters in there) and finally click the link “Watch the recorded session’ to see the interactions with the page components. At the first time I tried this tool, I want “OMG!” and I went to tell it to a friend of mine at work. There isn’t any limit to innovations and what technology can create.
“A picture is worth a thousand words.”, It’s Fred R. Barnard phrase I know, but hey, we don’t see those kinds of usability testing tools every day, don’t we. Of course there are many other usability testing tools, but this one is unique, it visualizes the actual visitors browsing session, and spotting problematic User Interface or even script problems/error, can be done by just carefully watching videos. Enough talks for a few moments. Please take a look at this video demonstration, that demonstrates userfly web usability testing tool. (Hey, don’t forget to test the demo page too).
So what do you need to get started and enjoy this magnificent innovative web usability testing tool?
Well, a website of course and a piece of Javascript code snippet, that you can grab and put it on your sites ‘<head>’ section when you register and logged in. Before we touch the prices info stuff, I wanted to let you know that userfly supports major browsers: Firefox, IE6 (Really?! – still breathing ah), IE7, Safari and Opera.
The best thing is that you can sign up for free and test this tool on your website/blog. I’ve already signed up and tested this tool on this blog. The results are pretty impressive and I didn’t even felt any slowdowns in my page loading speed what so ever. I wish that I could share the video with you, but as far as I know, userfly does not provides a way to share my videos, at least I didn’t find any option for that in the administration section.
Well, after the session of the visitor has been recorded. you can see it in your “Recordings” section. You will see a link to the video, besides it the referrer link, date/time, Pageviews and the location from which the visitor has came from (country flag and city) and browser info (icon). If you have several websites, you can show video recordings according per domain or all videos. On the right side there is an “On” button, that by clicking on it, you stops the recording session activities. You have option to Save the video, delete it or exclude recording by IP Address.
