Mobile Google Analytics for Android Devices
I have great news for those of you, who are using Google Analytics solution. I have searched the Internet for a Google Analytics Android app and luckily I’ve found one. The Android App is called “Mobile GA“, and you can download it free from Google Android Market (just search for “Mobile GA” and you will find it). This Mobile GA app was developed by ActualMetrics company.
I know that many of you won’t install it unless it comes from a trusted company. Well, ActualMetrics is a Google Business Solutions provider and they are providing solutions for very known customers, like EMULEX, mozilla Corporation, Forex.com, Alpine Mobile Media Solutions and others. They seem like a serious company.
To make sure that I am not just supplying my username & password to anonymous 3rd party company, I have checked analytics.blogspot.com (Google Analytics official blog) and I have found a post that links to Actual Metrics’ Mobile GA android app page. So you relax and be assured that we are using an app that comes from a well trusted company. Now lets review the Mobile GA app itself shall we?
Before we begin, here are the main features of Mobile GA, which utilizes Google Analytics API to transmit data securely to your mobile phone:
- Data range comparison
- Charts & Graphs
- Geolocation reports
- Regex-enabled searches
- Key summary statistics
- Reports: Visitors, Traffic soruces, Keywords, Content, Goals and E-Commerce
- Save reports to favorites
- Change data range
Well, after going through that list, lets run this cool web analytics android app and see what is waiting for us inside!
When I finished installing the app, I’ve picked up the Mobile GA icons and put it on my HTC Google Nexus One home page so I can quickly launch it when ever I want.

I clicked the icon and launched the “Mobile GA” application. The first screen is a login screen, where you need to enter your Google account / Google Analytics Email and Password. You can choose to check the checkbox to auto login in the future. After that, just click “Secure Sign In”.

In the next screen you will see two tabs: “Favorites” and “Profiles”. Because you don’t have any favorites yet, you will see an empty space. I’ve clicked Profiles, in order to view all my profiles from my Google Analytics account that I’ve just signed into.
It will take few moments until Mobile GA retrieves you profile using Google Analytics API. You will see a progress window saying “Loading. Please Wait… Retrieving accounts profiles.“. So I’ve waited. Maybe it will take quicker for, but because I am having some connections problems in where I live, it showed that window for a few seconds.
I had to wait a few moments until Mobile GA retrieved my account profiles
Here is the profile page with my Google Analytics account profiles. I have blurred the profile’s names, but you would of course see the names of all your profiles here.
In this tab you will see all profiles retrieved from Google Analytics (I blurred them to protect my privacy)
When you click the profile, you will see all the websites that are related to this profile. So you can actually get to see the details, I have chosen to give you an insight of LiveWebAnalysis.com statistics, my new blog about web analytics.
When you first login to view your website stats on Mobile GA, you will get a “Report View” popup window which says “Rotate your phone to switch between graphs/date range comparison and report details.“. I will show you the differences when you change the orientation in just a moment.
Alerts you that you can change the orientation of the phone to switch between graphs/date range report details
On the popup window, you can click the ‘OK’ button to continue or click ‘Never Show Again’ to not continue and don’t let the app present this window again in the future.
After clicking one of the buttons, you can see a visitor summary report of your website’s, including data ranges, New Visitor information (visits, pageviews, time on site) and Returning Visitor information (visits, pageviews, time on site).
Visitor's summary report
Now let play around with the orientation. I have rotated my HTC Google Nexus One phone, from vertical orientation to horizontal orientation, and instead of the figures report, I can see the “Actual Metrics” graph of my website’s visits (pretty cool, ah?).
When you first go to the graph view, you will see a popup window which tells you “Tap the graph or chart once to enlarge it. Tap once more to shring it back to its original size.“.
Let's you know that you can tap the graph to enlarge it

Yeh, not so much visitors
on my freshly new site. Hope that you’ll love it and come visit again guys
On the graph above, you can see see the number of visits against the time scale.
When you are full zoom-out, you won’t be able to see the data ranges, but when zooming in (tapping on the graph), you will be able to see it. See the next image.
When you zoom out, you can see the date range
When you click your Android phone Menu button at the button, you’ll get to see different options:

- Add to Favorite – add this metric to your favorites. You can choose the date range (Today, Yesterday, Last 7 Days or Last 30 Days). After that click “Add Favorites” to add this metrics to your favorite list. After that, you can quickly access it from the main screen (first tab).

- Switch Report – in this window you can switch reports, choose from: Visitor, Geo Location, Traffic, Content, Keywords, Goals & E-Commerce.

- Set Date Range – set the date range, choose from several options: Today, Yesterday, Last 7 Days, Last 30 Days.

- Compare Ranges – compare ranges statistical data. Here you can compare you metrics against date ranges, see the % change. In the visitor metric you can see: visits, Pageviews and Time on Site.
