What do you think about Web Analytics Association (WAA)?

Hi folks,

I wanted to discuss about "Web Analytics Association". I was visiting their website webanalyticsassociation.org today. I was happen to come across a logo of WAA in one of the web analytics vendors which I use their product in one of my blogs. As far as I can see, they are the "Oscar" of the web analytics world. If you have anything to contribute or who is involved in the Web Analytics sector, you can fill a membership form (Academic, Corporate or Professional), pay and get to be part of the Web Analytics Association (WAA). The first question I asked myself is why to we need such service. Do they want just money or their is something else awaiting for Web Analytics consultant, website owners, etc.

The more I read, the more I found how important is to have organized associations like "Web Analytics Association". Every web analytics consultant, student, educator, practitioner, and other people which are related to the Web Analytics world, can signup for a membership on WWAA. The main reason why joining is to take a part in this ongoing industry, access to research and get discounts in web analytic industry events, be listed in online members directory, enjoy their social groups,etc. So why not pay if you can benefit from that.

WAA say in their FAQ page, that WAA is not any kind of certificate. So you are not buying any certificate, but just taking a part in their community.

I wanted to know what is your opinion about Web Analytics Association (WAA)?

If you can get something for it, why not pay for it. As far as I can see on their homepage, they were founded by NedStat, Omniture, coremetrics, Yahoo!, Google Analytics, Webtrends and Walt Disney. Seems that their are serious players in there. Web Analytics Association.org was meant to be here. We are living in a place where there is so much information flying around us, that some unofficial or official regulations or organizations has to be founded.

If you ask me, I think the Web Analytics Association provides a great place for news, educational resources, jobs listing, events, articles and you name it. The exist because their is a need for them. If those guys didn't do it, someone else would. If you are into web analytics, you know that you have a regulated and serious place, where you can meet people in the industry, participate in web discussions, post jobs and really feel that you are taking part in something important, that will change the way we operate our websites on daily basis.

In order to enjoy all that WAA has to offer, of course you'll have to pay for membership. But that's make sure that they keep the "bad guys" our of their neighborhood. what means that you will be among professionals. BTW: I read WAA blog on a daily basis. you should check it out.

All that I know is that they know how to make money. Really, the most important thing is to educate yourself in the field of web analytics and make your e-commerce site/blog/website more interesting for your visitors. Give the users what they want and you can profit from it. There is to much buzz related to web analytics solutions. You can just use Google Analytics, make some multivariate tests and you can elevate your revenue by hundreds percents.
